What I Was Actually Testing

Artificial Studio's Text to 3D tool shows one number before you generate: 75 credits. That's the price displayed on the tool's main screen, and it's the number most people will assume is fixed — the cost of turning a text prompt into a 3D object.

It isn't fixed. It's a default. Opening the model dropdown on that same screen reveals four separate AI models, each with its own price, each producing the same category of output.

The Test

Clicking into the model selector on Text to 3D surfaces the real pricing structure, confirmed directly in the tool's own interface:

Rodin 2.5 Fast — 20 credits/object
Tripo H3.1 — 40 credits/object
Hunyuan 3D v3.1 Pro — 75 credits/object (pre-selected by default)
Meshy 6 — 160 credits/object

Four models, one button, an 8x spread between the cheapest and most expensive option — and the app doesn't default to either extreme. It lands right in the middle, at 75 credits, unless you open the list and pick something else.

Tested directly: the same feature ranges from 20 credits (Rodin 2.5 Fast) to 160 credits (Meshy 6). The default costs 75 — nearly 4x the cheap option, for no visible difference in what you're asked to generate.

So What's Actually Going On?

Nothing here is hidden in the sense of a bug or a dark pattern — every price is disclosed right there in the dropdown, the moment you open it. The real issue is that most people never open it. The tool leads with one price, one button, and a pre-made choice, and the interface gives you no visual signal that three other options exist until you click in.

Why This Matters If You're On The Free Tier

Artificial Studio's free plan gives you 20 credits a day, refreshing every 24 hours. At the default 75-credit price, a single Text to 3D generation costs nearly four days of your entire daily allowance. At the cheap end — the exact same feature, just a different model — it costs exactly one day's allowance.

That's the same output category, from the same tool, at four different real costs, and the difference between them is a single click most people never make.
