This Is Why Your Avatar Isn't What You Selected

Two Labels, One Screen

Open HeyGen's Presenter mode and the top of the screen shows a badge: Avatar V. That's the first thing you see, right next to the word "Presenter."

Look at the actual generation controls underneath, in the same screen, and the real setting says something different: Avatar IV.

Same screen. Two different labels. That's not a typo or a rendering glitch — it's the actual, live state of the interface, confirmed directly.

What The Dropdown Actually Shows

Clicking the "Avatar IV" control opens all three real options at once:

• Avatar V — "Character consistent motion style that adapts to script."
• Avatar IV — "Generic motion that adapts to script." This is the one actually checked by default.
• Avatar III — "Applies lip sync."

The Proof

I generated a real video with Avatar IV — the setting the controls actually default to, not the one the badge advertises — and it rendered cleanly, watermark and all, exactly as a Free-tier output should.

That's the whole point: the label you see first isn't necessarily the one being used to make your video. If you're picking an engine specifically for its motion style, checking the badge alone isn't enough — you have to open the dropdown to see what's actually selected.

The One Thing You Can Actually Do

Before you generate, click into the avatar/engine selector directly instead of trusting whatever's shown at the top of the screen. It takes one click, and it's the only place the real, active setting actually lives.
