Metricool Lets AI Schedule Your Posts. It Still Caps You At 20.

What I Was Actually Testing

Metricool has an official MCP integration that connects it directly to Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI assistants — the pitch is simple: describe what you want scheduled, and the AI handles the actual posting for you. It's listed right there on Metricool's own pricing page as a Free-tier feature, no upgrade required.

So I connected it. Told the assistant to handle my week's posting schedule across Instagram and TikTok. Everything looked fine — until I checked back and two of my posts had simply never gone live.

The Test

No error message came through at the time. No email. Just two posts sitting in my history that never made it to either platform. Digging into Metricool's own post history revealed the only clue: a small red dot next to each failed post, with no visible explanation until you hover directly over it.

Hovering it revealed the real message: "You have reached your Metricool account limit."

Confirmed directly from Metricool's own plan page: the Free tier caps scheduled posts at exactly 20 per month. That's not a soft warning — it's a hard wall, and nothing in the AI-scheduling flow tells you it's coming before you hit it.

Confirmed directly from Metricool's own MCP documentation: "The MCP works with any Metricool plan, including the free account. The limitations that apply are those of your current plan." The AI doesn't get special access — it inherits whatever cap your plan already has.

So What's Actually Going On?

This isn't a bug, and it isn't hidden maliciously — Metricool discloses the 20-post cap on its own pricing page. The problem is where the AI-scheduling feature sits relative to that limit: nothing in the MCP flow itself checks your remaining post count before accepting a new scheduling request. The assistant will happily queue up post number 21 with no pushback, and Metricool's own system silently drops it once the month's allowance runs out.

Why This Matters If You're On The Free Tier

I post three times a week, across two platforms. That's six posts a week — roughly 26 a month. Against a 20-post cap, I was never going to make it through a full month, whether I was scheduling by hand or handing it to an AI assistant. The math doesn't change based on who's doing the scheduling.

If you post more than about 4-5 times a week across multiple platforms on Metricool's free plan, you will hit this wall — the only question is whether you find out from a proactive check, or from a post that quietly never goes live.

The One Thing You Can Actually Do

Before you hand your calendar over to an AI assistant, check the real counter yourself: Metricool's Planning tab shows "X out of 20" directly on the calendar view. If you're already close, either trim your cadence or upgrade — Starter and above remove the cap entirely. And check your post history's status column periodically; a small red dot is the only signal a scheduled post actually failed.
