What I Was Actually Testing

Everyone I know associates vidIQ with keyword research and SEO scores. That's what it was built around, and that's how it's still described almost everywhere online — including by AI tools I asked about it while researching this.

The Discovery

Opening vidIQ's app now drops you into an AI chat interface, not a dashboard of separate tools. Sitting under "More tools" — a menu most existing users have probably never opened — are options like Clone my voice, AI voiceover, AI Shorts, and Compose video.

That last one is a real, functioning AI video generator. Not a mockup, not a "coming soon" placeholder — an actual pipeline that writes a script, generates a voiceover, sources stock footage, and composes a finished video.

The Test

I gave it one message: a topic, a format (vertical, 9:16), and a length (20 seconds), and told it to pick a voice for me.

It walked through real steps — found available voices, picked one ("Liam," an energetic voice it judged as a good fit for a short tip), generated the voiceover, sourced real stock footage from Pexels with actual creator credits attached, and composed everything into a finished video landing at 19.57 seconds — almost exactly the 20 I asked for.

On my first attempt, I got it wrong — I sent a vague follow-up instead of a complete request, and the AI reasonably asked the same questions again instead of generating anything. That wasn't the feature failing; that was me testing it wrong. Once I sent one clean, complete message, it worked every time.

Three clean tests is a solid signal, not a guarantee. I don't know how it performs on a longer video, a more complex topic, or a heavily loaded account. I also don't know if the specific voice or footage quality holds up for every niche — I tested one topic, one length, one format.
