What I Was Actually Testing

I run a lot of my own videos through free versions of tools before ever paying for anything -- partly to see what's actually included, partly because most "free plan" pages undersell what you get. This time I ran vidIQ's free Optimize tool against one of my own real, already-published videos, not a hypothetical one.

The Test

I opened vidIQ's Optimize screen on my published "OverseerOS" video and let it score what was already live -- not a draft, not a title I was considering, the actual video sitting on my channel right now.

Title score: 88/100
Review score: 84/100 -- with real, timestamped feedback tied to exact moments in the video, like a note on "The Hook" flagged at 0:02-0:04
Thumbnail suggestions: vidIQ generated three alternate thumbnails and scored each one -- 78, 85, and 85

Real numbers, pulled from a real published video: Title 88. Review 84. Even the suggested thumbnails got scored -- 85 was the best of the three.

So What's Actually Going On?

Most people assume "free plan" means generic advice -- boilerplate tips about titles and thumbnails that could apply to any video. That's not what this is. vidIQ's free Review tool opens your specific, already-published video and critiques it, timestamp by timestamp, tied to what's actually happening on screen at that moment.

Why This Matters

That distinction matters because generic advice is easy to ignore -- it doesn't feel like it's about your video specifically. A timestamped note that says exactly where your hook loses momentum, on the video you actually published, is much harder to wave off. And it's sitting in the free tier, not gated behind an upgrade.

The One Thing You Can Actually Do

Open vidIQ's Optimize tool on your most recent published video and go straight to the Review tab. Don't just glance at the score -- read the individual, timestamped notes. That's the part most people skip past on their way to checking the title score.
